We have been horrified by the murder of George Floyd and the brutal treatment of peaceful protesters across the United States of America. Recognizing that these tragic events are only the most recent in a long history of inequity in our country and around the globe, we at DRi feel compelled to reaffirm our dedication to help non-profits serve the vulnerable, right injustice, protect our planet, and be a voice for the voiceless. We cannot stand idly by and, with our silence, condone discrimination and brutality. We cannot be silent spectators to the dehumanization of our fellow Americans at the hands of systemic racism.
In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
We cannot be silent. We mourn with the Floyd family, and all Americans who have suffered from the prejudices of others and have lived and died under the oppression of racism. We support the peaceful protesters, who play an important role in inciting change, and we stand with everyone that has the courage to speak up for what is right. We take pride in the work of non-profit organizations and their leaders that fight on the front lines to empower those that have been marginalized and light the path of progress.
The role of DRi has been, and will continue to be, one of assistance and support to the organizations that work to further just causes. DRi’s mission is to identify and recruit racially and gender diverse candidates to lead non-profit organizations in carrying out their vital work. We take this responsibility seriously and personally. It will take leadership to continue the fight against intolerance and bring justice to a country in pain. Therefore, we will continue to find those that will serve that larger purpose, ensuring non-profit organizations are prepared to continue their missions.
On behalf of all of us at DRi, please know that while we are outraged and saddened, we will not let these emotions overwhelm, immobilize, or silence us; we are committed to taking collective action in the hope of a better, equitable future for America and beyond.
