Sherry Ettleson

Managing Director, Executive Search

Sherry Ettleson is a lawyer by training who came to Washington, D.C. 30 years ago to work in the public interest. She served as an advocate for non-profit organizations, including People for the American Way and Public Citizen, before going to work in the U.S. Senate for Senator Paul Wellstone (D-MN) as his legal counsel on a variety of issues.

After 4 years on Capitol Hill, Sherry returned to the non-profit sector as a lobbyist at M+R Strategic Services, a unique political consulting firm representing before Congress a wide range of not-for-profit organizations. She began recruiting when a former boss at M+R asked her to help him fill two positions within his firm. Those two placements were successful, and his non-profit clients began to hire Sherry, as well.

Sherry ultimately helped fill more than 250 leadership roles at major mission-driven institutions. Her clients included some of the most successful and pioneering non-profits in the country, including the AFL-CIO, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, League of Conservation Voters, National Immigration Forum, RAINN, Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, and the 50/50 Climate Project. Sherry frequently built multi-functional and integrated leadership teams of communications, development, finance, and program staff who are changing the landscape of possibility on numerous 21st-century challenges, from climate change to economic growth to healthcare.

In 2018, Sherry joined the executive search practice at Development Resources, inc., a nationally-recognized executive search and strategic consulting firm. Sherry serves as Managing Director at DRi, where she offers a comprehensive suite of executive search services to national and state organizations, with a special focus on advocacy organizations.
